    An interesting conceit (the article, not your post). Most species last on average 2 million years: I doubt Homo sapiens and all our works will make it to 100,000. Human society is one big experiment, and one with no control groups against which to test the effects of changes. We are fated to live in interesting times.

    This seems related to the idea of borrowing against future aid payments to raise enough capital to put some things right properly.

    Yeah, that could work. But I would like to hear a convincing argument that we have suddenly learned how to spend aid money effectively. What was the Eureka moment?
